The University of Kansas Department of German Studies offers our undergraduate students a diverse and challenging program in the language and culture of German-speaking Europe, including literature, the arts, history, business, and politics.  Our interdisciplinary German Studies curriculum integrates study abroad, research, and internship opportunities. We aim to provide the teaching, advising, and mentoring that our students need to engage actively in their education, both in the classroom and in co-curricular activities. We collaborate with many university units to enhance our students’ undergraduate experience.

We aspire to be a leading student-centered department that attracts intellectually curious and talented students from across Kansas and beyond. We endeavor to engage students from within the College and from the professional schools in the study of the language and culture of German-speaking Europe. We aim to have strong faculty and staff members who contribute to our department and to the College community.
